The prestigious UEFA Champions League continues in 2020, and the biggest teams in the competition are again looking to make a new mark in the history books. This year, the first champion of the new decade will be known. A number of the competition’s most successful teams will be looking to add to their numbers, while others do not have that chance.
Real Madrid
Already a record holder by a distance, Real will look to expand the gap with another win in 2020. The Spanish side has won the title 13 times, six more than their closest rivals. They scored a hat-trick of UCL titles between 2016 and 2018 under the management of Zinedine Zidane.
The Frenchman left in the wake of that third win, and they struggled in the following season. Now he is back and will be looking to create even greater history. Their next step towards that is a last-16 meeting with Manchester City.
Liverpool
The defending champions will be looking to make back-to-back wins in 2020. They are third on the list of most successful teams and could move to joint second with AC Milan if they win this year. They will be happy to know that this year’s final is returning to Ataturk Stadium, the same ground where they slew Milan a decade and a half ago. The reds face Atletico in the last round of 16.
Barcelona
Five-time winners Barca are looking to re-establish their dominance in world football, and what better way to do that than by collecting the first trophy of the new decade. They are paired with Napoli in the final round of 16.
Bayern Munich
Another five-time winner, Bayern will also be looking to go one better. They are also in a rebuilding phase and have to go through Chelsea at the last round of 16 in their current bid.
